N. Catty officials take oath

North Catasauqua Borough Council reorganized Jan. 2. Mayor William J. Molchany Jr. began the meeting by administering the oath of office to reelected Councilwoman Michele Hazzard and new Councilman Adam Landis.

Jessica Cope has also been reelected to council but was sworn in before the meeting as she attended virtually.

Landis will replace Mark Gioielli on council, but all other members remain the same from 2023.

Council voted to reelect Peter Paone as council president, and John Yanek will again serve as vice president. Paone led the remainder of the meeting.

Council formally approved the borough millage rate to 16.5% and the sewer rate of 150% of water usage cost. There was no change to the sewer rate from the year 2023.

A motion was approved to set the garbage fee to $435 for 2024. There will be a $10 early discount and a $20 senior citizen discount. Quarterly payments are accepted, with the first payment being $135 and $100 per quarter thereafter.

Christopher Wolfer was reelected as North Catasauqua Police Department chief for a two-year term, and Roger Scheirer was also reelected to serve as chief of North Catasauqua Fire Department for a two-year term. The position of assistant fire chief will remain vacant due to a lack of qualified personnel. The fire marshal will be filled by Francis Hadik for a two-year term.

The Civil Service Commission will welcome Brandon Lively for a two-year term, Greg Scheirer for a four-year term and Barbara Barber for a six-year term.

Connie Molchany will serve as a health officer for a two-year term.

Roger Scheirer was elected as the emergency management co-coordinator, alongside Greg Scheirer, for a two-year term.

The borough voted to continue a partnership with H.A. Berkheimer as the earned income tax collector for a two-year term, and Truist Bank has been chosen as the depositor location for a two-year term.

Steven Goudsouzian and Associates remain as the borough’s solicitor.

Keystone Consulting Engineers will remain the borough’s engineering firm for the next two years. David Shields has been appointed as the building code official, and Keycodes Inspection Agency will serve as the building inspector. Both positions will be held for two years.

The zoning board will welcome Dave Kutzor of Keystone Consulting as a zoning officer, while Annette Englert and Tasha Jandrisovits will be assistant zoning officers, all for two-year terms. The zoning board will consist of Jim Englert, John Pammer and Ernie Keller for a three-year term.

Bryan Cope, George Hillenbrand and Paone have been elected to serve on the planning commission and will also serve as River Central representatives, both for one-year terms.
