At the Dec. 5 Moore Township Board of Supervisors meeting, board members passed resolution 2023-23, setting the 2024 property tax rate at 6 mills, which is the same tax rate in 2023. The board also passed resolution 2023-24, accepting the 2024 no-tax-hike budget.
The board also approved resolution 2023-25, appointing Lois Kerbacher as the administrative officer for the police pension fund and the nonuniform pension fund for the balance of 2023.
Resolution 2023-26 honors former township Manager Nicholas Steiner with a framed citation. Steiner was the first Moore Township manager and served in the manager role for nearly five years.
Reports and testimony from the supervisors and others said Steiner was excellent is discharging his duties and possessed a demeanor that promoted harmony and a climate of working together to benefit Moore Township residents.

The historical commission report noted the renovation of the Edelman School has been going slow. The historical commission representative, Charmaine Bartholomew, requested the board intervene to have the contractor complete the renovation timely. Board Chair Daniel Piorkowski noted the township engineer is looking into the matter.
Piorkowski pointed out the renovation of the school has been going on a long time, and everyone looks forward to its eventual completion.
“Maybe in our lifetime we can get this school done,” Piorkowski noted.
He suggested the contractor be contacted to address the board at the next meeting to learn why the project is allegedly moving slowly.
In the recreation committee report, it was said the 2024 field rental and pavilion rental forms were updated and sent to the township solicitor for review. It is expected the forms will be finalized and ready for use in January 2024.
Bob Romano, chair of the land and environmental protection board, reported three open space properties are on the docket for preservation. The properties collectively total about 59 acres. He also noted the December meeting of the land and environmental protection board was canceled.
Kerbacher, representing the township’s Community Days committee, said the recent toy bingo was well attended and successful. She pointed out it was the last event of the committee for 2023.
In the public works department report, Craig Hoffman requested moving Brandon Biery from his role as municipal worker to the position of equipment operator/repair at a rate of $27.03. Hoffman said Biery has five years of seniority and “really succeeded in his job the last couple years.” The request was granted by the board.
Hoffman added Dec. 15 was the last day for leaf collection in the township.
Police Chief Gary West said there were 268 incidents in November, with four arrests. The arrests included three for driving under the influence and one for an illegal attempt to purchase a firearm.
Jason Harhart said there were 22 fire calls that include two fires and two motor vehicle accidents.
The board plans to hold its reorganization meeting 6 p.m. Jan. 2, 2024, immediately followed by its monthly supervisors meeting, at the municipal building, 2491 Community Drive.
Pennsylvania law requires municipalities hold their reorganization meeting on the first Monday in January, unless there is a holiday. Since Jan. 1, 2024, is the New Year’s holiday, the meeting will be held the following day.
