William R. Shunk Jr., 90, of Bethlehem, died Dec. 6, 2023, at his residence. Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late William Sr. and Helen (Doncsecz) Shunk. He was the husband of Shirley I. (Feltault) Shunk for 66 years.

He was a 1951 graduate of Liberty HS. He graduated with a Metallurgical Engineering degree in 1955 from Lehigh University. He played football in both high school and college.

He was a first lieutenant in the U. S. Army Reserve Corps.

He was the superintendent of the Iron and Brass Foundries at the former Bethlehem Steel.

He was a counselor and Bethlehem Boys Club director. He coached CYO sports for 20 years at St. Anne’s including football, basketball, wrestling and baseball. He coached football at Bethlehem Catholic HS for nine years.

He participated with and sang in St. Anne’s choir, Mora Chorus, Lehigh Choral Union and Barbershop Society and other groups.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Regina (Bill) Casey of North Andover, Massachusetts; Teresa (Joe) Ocampo of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Chris (Jen) Shunk of Easton and Joe (Marli) Shunk of Switzerland; two siblings, James Shunk of Paupack and Alice (Dave) Soplop of Nazareth; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

He predeceased by a daughter, Dianne Rimkus.
