Allen OKs median

At the Nov. 14 meeting, Allen Township Board of Supervisors discussed potential median treatments for East Bullshead and Willowbrook roads.

The median treatment is meant to make it more difficult for tractor-trailers to turn onto East Bullshead Road from Willowbrook Road.

Township Engineer Stan Wojciechowski provided a sketch showing a slight widening of East Bullshead and installation of a small median. He estimated construction costs to be between $50,000 and $60,000, plus an $11,000 engineering cost.

Wojciechowski said an 8-inch curb would be installed and flexible delineators may be added on top of the median to act as a vertical obstacle. An additional “no trucks” sign could be added as well.

The median treatment was approved unanimously by the board.

Also at the meeting, the board discussed various aspects of High Meadows Estates’ second-phase plan. The plan proposes Allen Township will own the pump station and sewer pipes.

Supervisor Dale Hassler said he believes the township should not take ownership of the sewer until all five phases of the project are complete. This is currently done with road dedications.

The board approved phase two, with the conditions outlined in the engineering letters and comments made during the meeting.

Those conditions include house numbers, road names assigned by the township, sidewalks on both sides of the interior roadway, a $1,500 recreation fee for all lots and the township will not take ownership of the sewer lines and pump station until the end of the project.

In other news, supervisors adopted the 2024 budget. The real estate tax rate will remain at 5 mills.

The board of supervisors will next meet 6 p.m. Dec. 12 at the fire department building, 3350 Howertown Road.
