Allentown resident

named POP leader

Benjamin Mangold of Allentown, was named as a Peer Orientation Person as of Aug. 31 at Albright College, Reading.

POPs are mentors who guide students through their first year on campus, beginning with summer on-boarding and Welcome Weekend.

Mangold, a graduate of Parkland High School, is studying computer science.

Hired, trained and guided by Albright’s Office of Student Involvement and Leadership and members of the Steering Committee, POPs are rising second, third and fourth year Albright students who carry a minimum 2.5 GPA and are in good standing with the college.

After leading Albright’s new class of Lions through Welcome Weekend activities, POPs continue to help new students transition from high school to college.

As of Aug. 29, Mangold was also named a resident assistant for the college’s new hall/Woods at Albright College.

Taking on a highly-responsible position, resident assistants lead and support the development of each individual in Albright’s residence halls and apartments.

RAs develop positive personal relationships with residents, collaborate with campus offices, empower residents to effectively interact with classmates, and uphold Albright community standards.

RAs for Crowell, Krause, and Walton Halls are tasked with helping first year students transition into college life, while RAs for Smith, Mohn, Rockland, and North Halls as well as Affinity Housing and Albright Woods work among established, upplerclass student communities.

Construction is soon to be complete on a new residence hall, adjacent to Shirk Stadium.

All Albright Residential Life staff are highly trained in safety and community building, as well as campus resources, programming and policies.
