Plan to attend annual Sheeprock Trek and sunrise service

The 95th Annual Sheeprock Trek and Thanksgiving Sunrise Service will leave promptly 5:45 a.m. Nov. 23 (yes, Thanksgiving morning) from the Macungie Volunteer Fire Department, 31 S. Walnut St. Macungie Boy Scout Troop 71 will light the way up Macungie Mountain where there will be a brief Thanksgiving sunrise service. There will be a special Thanksgiving message by state Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, R-187th. Hot chocolate and doughnuts will be served at the end of the hike.

The event is coordinated by the Macungie Historical Society. Hikers should be prepared with flashlights, gloves and hiking boots. In the event of inclement weather, the sunrise service will be held at the Macungie Volunteer Fire Department 5:45 a.m. For more information, call the Macungie Historical Society at 610-965-0372.

Grace Lutheran Church, 28 W. Main St., will offer its free community meal 4-5:30 p.m. Nov. 10 in the fellowship hall. Takeout is available.

Grace Lutheran Church holds a weekly free food distribution 2-4 p.m. every Wednesday, Nov. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 for East Penn School District residents. Signs will be posted with directions for parking and pickup.

The Macungie Institute will continue to offer free weekly Pinochle and Mahjong on Wednesdays through 2023. Pinochle is 10 a.m. to noon and Mahjong is 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Upcoming events include book club, a photo contest and a Christmas toy drive. Lower Lehigh AARP will meet noon Nov. 2 in the lower level of Macungie Memorial Hall at Macungie Memorial Park. Dues will be collected; bring both cards. Tickets are now available for the Dec. 14 Christmas party. The next meeting will be Dec. 14. For more information, contact Dot at 610-967-3284.

Zion Lehigh Evangelical Lutheran Church, 8269 Spring Creek Road, Alburtis, will have a Holiday Craft Bazaar 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 4. There will be crafts, a basket raffle, bake sale, attic treasures and good food. Homemade food is available for eat-in or carryout.

The Macungie Minstrelaires present “A British Invasion” 7 p.m. Nov. 3 and 2 and 7 p.m. Nov. 4 at Lower Macungie Middle School, 6299 Lower Macungie Road, Macungie. For tickets and information, visit www.macungie-minstrelaires.org. A portion of the proceeds will go to The Kindness Project.

There will be a fall vendor and craft fair 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 11 at Macungie Memorial Park.

The Alburtis seniors will have a meeting noon Nov. 15 at Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Quarry Road, Alburtis. There will be a potluck buffet lunch followed by a meeting and bingo. There is a small charge. Bring a covered dish. Tickets for the Christmas party noon Dec. 20 will be available for purchase. Concordia Lutheran Church, 2623 Brookside Road, Macungie, will hold a Thanksgiving Eve service 7 p.m. Nov. 22 with a pie festival immediately following.

Macungie Borough Council has in-person public meetings at the Macungie Institute. The next meetings will be 7:30 p.m. Nov. 6 and 20 and Dec. 4.

Our youngest child recently got his driver’s license. Since we are a two car, three driver household at the moment, there is some ride-sharing going on. Ben recently dropped me off at church and I said, “Thanks for the ride.” He asked, “Do I get a tip?” I replied, “Sure. Buy low, sell high.” He was not amused!
