Accident

Two people were hurt when a rear tire of one vehicle broke free and struck another vehicle along Interstate 78 near mile marker 58.7 in Salisbury Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police Fogelsville.

One vehicle was traveling westbound in the middle lane of the highway while the second vehicle was eastbound in the far left lane of travel at approximately 5:13 p.m. Oct. 15.

The left rear tire of the westbound vehicle broke free of the vehicle and cleared the center concrete barrier where it struck the front windshield/roof area of the eastbound vehicle, according to authorities.

Two passengers in the eastbound vehicle were transported to St. Luke’s Hospital Bethlehem. The vehicle they were in was towed from the crash scene. The tire was replaced on the westbound vehicle.

Upper Saucon EMS and Yocum Towing also responded to the crash, according to authorities.
