Friends of the Library fall book sale Nov. 17-18

Lower Macungie Library hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The library will be closed Nov. 7 for Election Day.

There will be a Swiftie Party for all ages 6:30-8 p.m. Oct. 20. Taylor Swift fans are welcome to come dressed in their favorite Era attire for an evening of music, dancing, games and prizes to celebrate the release of The Eras Tour Concert film.

Sunny Day Storytime for ages 2-5 years will be outdoors on the front lawn 10:30-11 a.m. Oct. 25. Bring a blanket or chairs. Weather cancellations will be posted on Facebook.

There will be a Chit Chat & Craft adult craft night 6:30 p.m. Oct. 24 to create pumpkins out of wine corks, wood and twine.

The Alfred Hitchcock movie “Dial M for Murder” will be shown 10:30 a.m. Oct. 26 for adults.

There will be a Spooky Storytime 10:30 a.m. Oct. 28 for all ages. Children may wear costumes.

The teen advisory board for grades 6-12 will have a Halloween Party noon to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 28.

The library is holding a poetry contest for all ages beginning Oct. 31. Winners in each division will read their poems at the Poetry Coffee House 6:30 p.m. Nov. 8.

There will be a Disney Trivia Night for all ages 7-8:30 p.m. Oct. 25.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club book for 10:30 a.m. to noon Nov. 1 is “The Engineer’s Wife” by Tracey Enerson Wood. The book for Dec. 6 is “The Elephant Whisperer” by Lawrence Anthony. The book club meets virtually.

Masterpiece Focus: World on Fire 1 p.m. Nov. 3 is an adult program celebrating PBS’s anniversary with a discussion of the Masterpiece show “World on Fire.”

There will be family spy camp for youth and families 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 4. Learn about codes, fingerprints, disguises and more.

Library Explorers for grades K-5 will meet 6:30 p.m. Nov. 6. There will be a new topic and activity each month.

Books & Beyond will meet 6:30-8 p.m. Nov. 6 at the library multipurpose room to discuss “Lessons in Chemistry” by Bonnie Garmus.

Homeschool Hour for grades K-5 will meet 1:30-2:30 p.m. Nov. 13 for a story and activity. The theme for November is biographies.

Small Business Financing: A Small Business Toolkit Series will be offered 7-8:30 p.m. Nov. 9.

Oct. 20 is the last day to drop off donations for the upcoming Friends of Lower Macungie Library fall book sale. Acceptable items include gently used books, DVDs, music CDs and audiobooks on CD.

The Friends of the Library will hold its fall book sale 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 17-18 in the Lower Macungie Library. Friends’ preview night is 5-7:30 p.m. Nov. 16. Join the Friends that night and purchase books before the weekend crowds. There will be a bag sale 2:30-4 p.m. Nov. 18. All proceeds from the sale benefit the library.

There will be a free document shredding event sponsored by state Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, R-187th and the township 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 21 in the Lower Macungie Township parking lot.

The Macungie Minstrelaires present “A British Invasion” 7 p.m. Oct. 27 and Nov. 3 and 2 and 7 p.m. Oct. 28 and Nov. 4 at Lower Macungie Middle School, 6299 Lower Macungie Road, Macungie. Trick or treating in Lower Macungie Township will be held 6-9 p.m. Oct. 31. Some homeowner’s associations may have set alternate dates for their neighborhoods.

Zion Lehigh Evangelical Lutheran Church, 8269 Spring Creek Road, Alburtis will have a Holiday Craft Bazaar 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 4. There will be crafts, a basket raffle, bake sale, attic treasures and good food. Homemade food is available for eat-in or carryout.

There will be a stuff the truck event 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 4 at the Lower Macungie Community Center parking lot. Habitat LV ReStore will be collecting kitchen/bathroom cabinets, newer, working appliances, furniture, lighting fixtures, hardware, windows, plumbing supplies and more.

The 13th annual craft/vendor fair will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 18 at the community center, 3450 Brookside Road. Over 100 crafters and vendors will participate. Food is available 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There is a free shuttle from the parking lot to the door.

The Alburtis Seniors will have a meeting noon Nov. 15 at Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Quarry Road, Alburtis. There will be a potluck buffet lunch followed by a meeting and bingo. There is a small charge. Bring a covered dish. Tickets for the Christmas party noon Dec. 20 will be available for purchase. The Lower Macungie Township Senior Citizens will meet noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 14 in the community center. This is the Thanksgiving dinner; pre-purchased tickets are required. Volunteers are needed for various committees. Members are welcome to stay after the meeting to socialize and play games.

The Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners and staff are holding the 18th Annual Troop Support Program to collect donated items to send to township residents in the armed services who won’t be home for the holidays. To register a loved one in the holiday program, call 610-966-6924 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Donations of food, toiletry items, batteries, magazines and more will be accepted at the community center during that same time through Nov. 22. A list of acceptable donations is available at the community center.

The community center will be collecting children’s new pajamas and books during the fall and holiday season. Items will be donated to local area children. A large receptacle is located in the lobby through Dec. 29.

Lower Macungie Township now offers indoor pickleball at the community center gymnasium. Advance registration is required.

Open gym is available at the community center. Residents must purchase an annual membership to use the gym.

Adult classes include baking, belly dance, yoga, karate, ballroom dance and tai chi. Youth classes include cooking, Kindermusik, Safe Sitter, tennis, pre-ballet and tot sports.

Yard waste center hours through October are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. Hours for November and December are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off. The center is located at 5536 Indian Creek Road, Macungie.

Leaf collection continues through Dec. 1. Leaves should be at the curb before 7 a.m. Mondays.
