Boys soccer one win from D-11 playoff berth

The 2023 boys soccer season has been up-and-down for Salisbury.

The Falcons’ longest winning streak of the season is three games and that came back in late August and into September.

Since then, they have been unable to put together any prolonged streak of wins, but they have also not fallen into an extended string of losses.

Salisbury’s longest skid was also three games, which came right after the three-game winning streak.

The result is a season record of 5-6-0 in the Colonial League and 8-7-0 overall, leaving the team’s playoff hopes coming down to the final two games of the regular season.

The Falcons avoided more frustration when Joshua Hudak scored the lone goal of the game in a 1-0 win over Tamaqua in a nonleague contest over the weekend. Goalie Blaine Berger made seven saves in the win for Salisbury and the assist for Hudak’s goal went to Alejandro Zuniga Garcia.

Moravian Academy kept Salisbury from its second three-game winning streak when the Lions downed the Falcons 7-5 Monday night.

The regular season comes to an end this week and Salisbury hosts Southern Lehigh and Lincoln Leadership Academy to wrap up the schedule.

As for the postseason, the Falcons are still alive for a spot in districts but have been eliminated from the Colonial League playoff hunt. Salisbury would have needed to pull ahead of Wilson for the final playoff spot because of the tiebreaker, but the best the Falcons can do is to tie Wilson in the league standings. The loss to Wilson was the first game in the early three-game slide for Salisbury.

A win in either of their final two games would put Salisbury into the district playoffs. The Falcons beat Lincoln Leadership (2-6) on Sept. 28 by an 8-3 score, but they have not faced Southern Lehigh (8-6) yet this season.
