Girls soccer gets first goal; boys vie for playoffs

The Salisbury girls soccer team faced Lehighton (3-4 Schuylkill, 3-5 overall) in a nonleague game recently and picked up its first goal of the season. Madison Reis, a sophomore, broke a scoreless string for the Lady Falcons that dated back to last season when she scored against the Indians in what would turn out to be a 7-1 loss.

The game was the lone contest for Salisbury last week and came against a team that will be joining the Colonial League next season.

The loss dropped Salisbury to 0-9 on the year with eight games remaining on the schedule.

This week will be a busier one for the Falcons, who play at Palisades (6-1 Colonial, 7-2 overall) before facing Lincoln Leadership Academy (0-3) and then playing at Catasauqua (1-5, 1-7) on Saturday.

On the boys’ side, the Falcons (5-4, 6-5) downed Northern Lehigh (1-5-1, 3-6-1) 3-2 this past week. After five days off, the boys team returns to action against Palisades (2-5-2, 2-5-2) before facing Lincoln Leadership (2-4-0) and Tamaqua (1-5-0 Schuylkill, 4-5-0 overall) later in the week.

The Falcons are still in the hunt for a playoff spot in the Colonial League, currently standing seventh, just behind Wilson (5-3) for the final league playoff spot.

The Falcons lost to the Warriors earlier in the season, meaning they would lose the tiebreaker if the two teams finish the season with identical records. Salisbury is also alive for a spot in the District 11 bracket for the postseason.
