Lehigh County Open Gate Farm Tour Oct. 14, 15

This week’s fall festival highlight is the Lehigh County Open Gate Farm Tour, presented by Penn State Extension. This event was a favorite of ours when our boys were growing up. This year it runs Oct. 14 and 15 at 15 different farms throughout Lehigh County.

The goal of the farm tour is to raise awareness about local agriculture. Local farms participating are in Germansville, New Tripoli, Orefield, Allentown, Emmaus, Coopersburg and Bethlehem.

There are cattle farms, dairy farms, organic farms and much more. There are always cool things for the kids to do and see and produce, flowers and food to purchase. For a full list of the farms, visit www.extension.psu.edu/2023-lehigh-valley-open-farm-tours.

Salisbury Elementary School T-shirt days are every Friday this year rather than every other Friday. This makes it a lot easier to keep track of, so hopefully our school will be covered in our new red T-shirts every Friday.

Oct. 5 is Heavenly Hat Day at SES. On Heavenly Hat Day, students can wear their favorite hat to school and make a donation to the Heavenly Hats Foundation who distributes new hats to people who have lost their hair either to disease or medical treatment.

Township schools will be closed Oct. 9 for teacher professional development.

The next curriculum and technology meeting will be 7 p.m. Oct. 18, immediately followed by a school board meeting 8 p.m. Both of these meetings are being held this month at Lehigh Career and Technical Institute, 4500 Education Park Dr. Schnecksville.

Trick-or-Treat night for Salisbury Township will be 5:30-8 p.m. Oct. 27. The start time will be earlier this year because of the high school Homecoming game.

The Salisbury yard waste drop-off sites are open for a few more weeks. The Franko site will be open Oct. 5, 7 and 16. Devonshire will be open Oct. 9, 12 and 14. As always, hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.
