EHS names student of the week

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I am currently in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.

Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. My parents are David and Emily Nosal. I also have a younger sister named Grace and a dog named Toby.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject is science. I love all areas of science, but chemistry is my favorite. There is always something new to explore and it is everywhere in the world around us. It’s also just interesting to see some sort of phenomenon in real life and be like “Oh, I know why that is happening.”

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. Academically, I have earned either Principal’s Honor Roll or High Honor Roll all marking periods in high school. I was also chosen to be recognized for the 2023 Grad Spotlight program at Emmaus. In athletics, I was voted and awarded the Player’s Player Award and also was a member of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference All Star Team this past cross-country season.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has being involved in these organizations impacted your high school experience?

A. I have been involved in a variety of extracurricular activities at Emmaus. I was a member of the cross-country team all four years where I was a member of the league, district and state teams for two of those years. Throughout high school, I was involved with the Emmaus Fitness Team where my team and I competed in many meets throughout the tri-state area. This past year I was able to be team captain for the fitness team.

Also this year, I was president of the Gratitude Club. During my senior year, I decided to participate in the Field Study Program at EHS where I am a teaching intern in a chemistry class. This program has been amazing because I have had the opportunity to teach entire lessons and helped me to solidify my career path. As an extension of this program I was able to volunteer in a study skills classroom during a free period where I work one-on-one with the students in the class.

Outside of school I am a member of the Lower Macungie Fire Department Women’s Association. Balancing all of these activities has taught me time management between my course load and activities. I have been able to meet so many amazing people and build relationships that I wouldn’t have had otherwise.

Having all of these opportunities and participating in them has also allowed me to explore my interests and help shape my future.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. I’m sure this is a common theme among kids my age, but adapting to school after the pandemic was the biggest challenge for me. Getting back to “normal ish” school and not going to school in my bedroom anymore was just a huge shift in my routine. Although I liked returning to in person school much more, it took a little while to adapt to it again.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. After high school, I am attending Kutztown University for secondary education with a focus in chemistry where I will also be participating in their honors program. My goal is to become a middle school or high school science teacher one day.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. I admire my parents because of how hardworking and encouraging they are. They do so much for my sister and me and I really appreciate it. They are always supportive and encourage us to try new things and pursue what we are interested in.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would like to be remembered for being someone who is reliable, hardworking and always willing to help another person. I also want to be remembered as someone who could make other people smile and overall just be a friendly face.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers

A. The biggest piece of advice I have is to get out of your comfort zone and take advantage of your opportunities. I know it may be hard or a little intimidating at first, but it’s worth it. You may never get some of these opportunities again, so go for it while you’re able to.
