UPPER MACUNGIE: Self-defense class offered May 20

Upper Macungie Township is partnering with Lehigh Valley Marshall Arts to offer a self-defense class 11 a.m. to noon May 20 at 7150 Hamilton Blvd., Trexlertown.

Although this program is free, participants must register in advance as space is limited.

Join the township at Ricky Park, 5875 Ricky Ridge Trail, Orefield, and relax to the sights and sounds from nature during the new yoga classes.

Dates and times are 4:30-5:30 p.m. Mondays; 5-6 p.m. Wednesdays and 9-10 a.m. Fridays June 5-Sept. 27.

Participants need to bring a yoga mat and water bottle.

A Bike Skills and Safety Rodeo, presented by the township and Valley Preferred Cycling Center, will take place from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on June 10 at Valley Preferred Cycling Center, The Velodrome, 1151 Mosser Road, Breinigsville.

Kids between the ages of 6-10 will learn about bike safety and road rules.

They will also ride on practice courses set up to test out their new skills.

The prerequisite for the rodeo is the child must be able to ride a bike.

The township, in partnership with Nanny Loft LLC., will offer a Safe Sitter one-day “The Essential” course 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. June 17 in the municipal building, 8330 Schantz Road, Breinigsville.

This course is designed to prepare students in grades six to 12 to be safe home alone or babysitting.

The per student fee includes a 60-minute introduction to CPR along with the safety, childcare, first aid and rescue and life and business skills.

Students will receive a cinch bag with manual, flashlight, Band-Aid kit, emergency notepad, snacks and water.

Students need to provide their own lunch.
