Girl Scout proposes free little library

Council President Ron Karposki introduced Riya Patel, a student from Eyer Middle School and a member of Girl Scout Troop #6931 at the May 15 Macungie Borough Council meeting. Patel has proposed a plan for a free little library by the entrance door to the Macungie Institute. She has designed a small house with a shelf and suggested colors. Patel must complete 50 hours of community service to satisfy the requirements for her Silver Project Girl Scout badge. Council approved her project.

Macungie Institute continues to make progress. A recent event, the local artisans and crafter show with 60 vendors, received good feedback. Events and activities continue. Information can be found on the website which now includes fliers for upcoming events, on the Macungie Institute Facebook page, Macungie Neighborhood and nine other social media pages. There is a message sign which is updated with events and rental information.

Installation of a security wall at borough hall is progressing. Plans are being discussed for the design of this wall.

Council member Carl Sell raised an issue over street sweeping. There are no parking signs posted but parking issues are not enforced. He said the sweeping costs money and it would be nice to see the streets cleaned.

The Church Street sidewalk discussion was tabled.

Financial Related Services will temporarily provide a bookkeeper for the borough. This will aide in updating and creating more efficient bookkeeping procedures. This will be temporary with no time frame discussed.

There was an executive session for real estate, legal and personnel issues.
