Paul F. Hertzog Jr.

Paul F. “Skip” Hertzog Jr., 79, of Lower Macungie Township, died April 13, 2023, in Geisinger St. Luke’s University Health Network, Orwigsburg. He was the husband of the late Kay L. (Gressler) Hertzog who died Jan. 13, 2022. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Evelyn J. (Falstich) and Paul F. Hertzog Sr.

He was a longtime member of the former Salem U.M. Church and, most recently, of Asbury U.M. Church, both in Allentown. While at Salem, he served on its financial committee, as head usher and as a Sunday school teacher.

He was a 1961 graduate of William Allen High School, earning his bachelor’s degree from Kutztown University in 1967. He was employed as a Spanish teacher at William Allen High School for 33 years where he also served as the foreign language department chair for 23 years and was very active in many facets of the high school’s athletics for 30 years.

From 1963 to 1978, he was a lifeguard, supervisor and water aquatics director for the City of Allentown and was the 1974 “Swim for Cancer” chairman.

He was a part-time courier for Quest Diagnostic for 24 years and was a member of F.& A.M. Lodge No. 326, Trexlertown.

He is survived by his son, Paul F. “Buddy” III and his wife, Patricia, of Alburtis; daughter, Kelly L. and her husband, Robert VanDerheyden, of Kunkletown; grandchildren, Uriah J. and fiancee, Erika, Patrick D. and fiance, Devin, Tyler B., Evelyn L.; great-granddaughters, Paisley, Madiline Kay; great-grandsons, Ziggy, Rory; sister, Barbara and her husband, Richard Boyer; nieces; nephews.

Services will be held 10:30 a.m. April 19 in the Stephens Funeral Home, Inc., 274 N. Krocks Road, Allentown. Call 9:30 a.m. until service time.
