Karam retires as BC wrestling coach

Jeff Karam has officially put away his chair on the wrestling mat, as the long time Bethlehem Catholic coach retired Tuesday afternoon.

Karam walks away with a 364-116 career record in 15 seasons coaching Bethlehem Catholic, Freedom and Delaware Valley (NJ).

However, his past 12 years saw the Hawks climb the mountain to one of the nation’s top programs, winning nine PIAA team titles (four in 2A and five in 3A).

He’s coached 22 state champions third most in state history behind Clearfield’s Art Weiss and Nazareth’s Dave Crowell and comes off an undefeated 18-0 season where the Hawks swept every single team and individual postseason tournament title, along with crowning state champions Keanu Dillard, Nate Desmond and Kollin Rath in Hershey last month.

The Hawks walk away with a 49-5 all-time record in the PIAA tournament, tying them with Nazareth for second and behind Clearfield’s record 51 wins.

“Jeff Karam has been the epitome of coaching at Bethlehem Catholic,” athletic director Chris Domyan said in a statement. “There is no way to ever thank him enough for his commitment and leadership in our community.

“His character as a person is remarkable, and it is apparent in every aspect of our wrestling program. In nearly 15 years he accumulated countless victories, but the greatest success was his ability to foster a culture of faith and family. Becahi is forever grateful for his service.”
