Emmaus swimmers or relays teams competed in six events at last weekend’s PIAA Swimming and Diving State Championship meet, held annually at Bucknell University’s Kinney Natatorium

The Hornet foursome of Andrew Taylor, Ryan DeJohn, Logan Shriver and Griffin Messenlehner swam the 400 free relay in 3:09.98 in the state preliminary race, which was the eighth-best time in Class 3A and good enough to reach the championship final.

They returned for the evening championship finals and held on to eighth place with a time of 3:11.45.

Another Hornet relay took 15th place in the prelims. The foursome of Messenlehner, DeJohn, Taylor and Ethan Ferris posted a time of 1:36.81 in the event.

Messenlehner, a sophomore, swam in the 100-yard backstroke at states and finished 22nd overall, while Taylor, a senior, swam the 100 free in 47.51 for 25th place.
