March 16

The Emmaus Historical Society will present a program 7 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church Parish Hall, Fifth and Chestnut streets, Emmaus. Bill Barto, past president of the Emmaus Historical Society will return with a newly created program on the Emaus train wreck of 1925 and the Emaus plane crash of 1935. The program will also feature Barbara (Hieter) Edelman, past Free Press reporter. Bill and Barbara will delve into many of the facts of these two major events in Emaus that took the lives of two young Emaus men, Leroy Diehl and Carl Iobst. They will share not only the stories of the events but also some eerie parallels of the lives of these two men.

March 19

The 64th Allentown St. Patrick’s Parade will be held 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Featuring 10 pipe bands, eight divisions and more than 2,000 marchers from organizations, schools, companies and community groups from throughout the Lehigh Valley, the parade will form at the Allentown Fairgrounds track near Liberty and 19th streets. The parade will then proceed west on Liberty Street, turn north onto 19th Street, head west on Tilghman Street to 25th Street, south on 25th Street and back to Liberty Street to return to the Fairgrounds 19th Street gate.

The Carbon Model Railroad Society is sponsoring its Spring Train Meet 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Diamond Fire Co. Bingo Hall, 120 Main St., Walnutport. This is a model railroad, toy train and railroadiania sale for the serious and amateur railroad and model train collector. Food will be available for purchase from the Bingo Hall Kitchen. There is an admission charge. Plenty of free parking. Bring your entire family.

The Upper Milford Historical society will host its monthly open house 1 to 4 p.m. at the Upper Milford Township municipal building, 5671 Chestnut St. Members of the historical society will staff the event. The historical society collection includes artifacts such as arrowheads, school yearbooks, vintage photographs and home and farming equipment used in the township as well as documents dating back to the 1700s. The third annual Tee Time at the Library fundraiser will be held 6-9 p.m. March 24, for adults 21 and older and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 25, for families, at the Emmaus Public Library, 11 E. New Temple Chapter #298 Order of the Eastern Star will host a basket bingo at Lehigh Lodge, 2120 Route 100, Macungie. The public is invited to the 70th anniversary of the Woman’s Club of Emmaus celebration of the Girls of the Month 6 p.m. in the Emmaus High School cafeteria. The club’s Girls of the Month for the 2022-2023 academic year also will be recognized.

Hivel Und Dahl Preservation Society quarterly meeting will be held 7 p.m. at the Upper Milford Township building, 5671 Chestnut St., Zionsville. The program is “Homesteaders Maple Sugaring.” Russ Lagler will show how a homeowner can make their own maple syrup - from tapping the trees to the finished product. The program is free and everyone is welcome.

April 1

Upper Milford Western District Fire Company No. 1 will host a free Easter Egg Hunt 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the station, 6341 Chestnut St., Zionsville. Fire truck tours, a coloring contest, pictures with the Easter bunny and raffle baskets will be offered as well.

The Vera Cruz Community Association will host its annual Easter Egg Hunt at Mystic Chain Park, rain or shine, starting promptly 1 p.m. The park is located at 3718 Main Road East. Weather permitting, the eggs will be placed on the lawn for the participants to find. In case of rainy weather, the egg hunt will be a drive-thru event. Come early.

The Mountainville/Alton Park Lions Easter Egg Hunt will be held 1:30 p.m. at Percy Ruhe Park. There are four age groups and special prize eggs.

April 16

The Friends of the Emmaus Public Library will host the 23rd annual Spring Used Book Sale at Lower Macungie Middle School, 6299 Lower Macungie Road. A preview night for Friends will be held 6-8 p.m. April 21. The public sale will begin 8 a.m. April 22 with a brown bag blowout 2 to 2:45 p.m. The sale includes children’s books, fiction and nonfiction books, puzzles and more. May 11

The Friends of the Emmaus Public Library will host a bus trip to the Morgan Library and Museum in New York City. The bus will depart 8 a.m. from The Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, 3461 S. Cedar Crest Blvd. and return approximately 6 p.m. the same day. The trip includes a guided tour of the Morgan Library, as featured in the 2021 bestseller “The Personal Librarian,” lunch and sightseeing. There is a cost.
