Trash hauler issues discussed

Macungie Borough Council met for its regularly scheduled meeting March 6 at Macungie Institute and a discussion was held about the new trash hauler in Macungie.

Whitetail Disposal, Inc. has been the borough’s trash hauler since November 2022.

From November 2022 to March, there were 29 complaints which vary from missed trash or recycling to certain items not being taken. Other complaints include trash cans being thrown and/or broken and selective trash removal.

For questions or complaints, residents are being told to contact Whitetail directly. Large items are eligible for disposal by calling Whitetail directly. One large item is permitted per week.

Macungie Institute activities continue to increase. Website activity was up in January and Facebook followers have also increased monthly.

Various events continue at the Institute including a book club and a fiber arts club. Painting with Police was a popular event. Crocheting lessons, ladies skin care programs and various games are also part of the Institute’s calendar.

The Emmaus Public Library held its monthly meeting. Various activities have been added to the calendar with the summer reading program now being scheduled for the upcoming season.

Council President Ron Karboski is structuring council with various committees for certain projects and programs within the borough such as negotiating the Teamsters contract. Greg Hutchison was added to this committee and additional members may be added.

Councilmember Barry Bloch was added to the public works hiring committee. The zoning hearing board will include Todd Rutledge and Karboski. The accounting contract committee will include John Yerman and Bloch.

Hutchison is the fire company liaison.

Lisa Yeager and Bloch were not in attendance and will be considered for various committees.

The various projects currently in the works are the security wall in borough hall, bump outs improvements, the Church Street project and zoning needs for this year. These projects are set up in a form to view in detail on the website at macungie.pa.us.

There was an executive session held for real estate and legal matters.
