EHS wrestlers prep for district tourney

Wrestlers from every team in District 11 are set to gather this weekend to compete in the District 11 3A individual wrestling tournament at the Memorial Gym at Liberty High School.

The top five wrestlers in each weight class advance to the PIAA 3A Northeast Regional on March 3 and 4 also at Liberty.

Emmaus is coming off a 64-9 loss to Nazareth in the District 11 3A Duals and a regular season ending 39-22 setback to rival Parkland.

Coach Jim Best’s squad is preparing for combat this weekend with grit and determination.

“Our coaching staff expects our wrestlers to compete hard and continue to progress during the upcoming post season tournaments,” Best said. “Preparation for the District 11 tournament becomes more individualized, and expectations vary by individual wrestler.”

Success in wrestling requires executing various skills and techniques. At this time of the year, it comes down to a wrestler just doing it.

“If each individual participating maximizes their potential, the tournament will be a complete success,” Best said. “If that happens, or nearly happens, coaches expect a top 10 team place finish and multiple wrestlers qualifying to advance to the Northeast Regional Championships the following weekend.”

The tournament begins at 5 p.m. Friday and continues at 9 a.m. Saturday.
