‘Disaster’ strikes high school drama club

By BERNADETTE SUKLEY

Special to The Press

For anyone who likes disco, the 1970s and disaster movies, the Northwestern Lehigh High School spring musical is the ticket to great adventure.

This year’s presentation is the quirky and darkly funny, “Disaster!”

The musical takes place in 1979 Manhattan during the maiden voyage of the ship, Barracuda, the first floating casino and disco.

The characters gather to gamble and dance, unaware of impending natural disasters, and the building’s lack of safety measures compounds these catastrophes.

In addition, the casino’s structure was built on a fault line, which causes earthquakes throughout the show.

The characters’ lives and love affairs are just as ill-fated.

The musical is steeped in ’70s hits such as “Knock on Wood” and “Never Can Say Goodbye.”

There is also a surprise ending that just has to be seen.

The spring musical will be performed 7 p.m. March 2-4; and 2 p.m. March 5.

Tickets are available online only at northwesterntigers.org.
