Press Photo by Jim Marsh Western Salisbury Volunteer Fire Company crew members trained Jan. 23 in protocols and methods of emergency-scene first aid techniques. The “Stop the Bleed” program prepared by the American College of Surgeons was presented by William Sames, assistant chief for the fire company and an Allentown paramedic and certified trainer. ABOVE: Crew members use practice prosthetics, tourniquets and compression bandages for hands-on experience using the lessons illustrated by the “Stop the Bleed” program. The first aid techniques and refresher training are to assure that firefighters responding to motor vehicle accidents or other trauma emergencies are prepared to administer emergency aid pending the arrival of ambulance personnel.
