EPC tourney starts Friday

The East Penn Conference meets on Wednesday to iron out the seedings for this week’s boys’ basketball tournament.

Action gets underway on Friday night for the quarterfinal round, with the higher seed hosting, before the semifinals and finals move to Allentown’s PPL Center next Tuesday and Thursday night.

The eight teams that qualified for this year’s tournament are Emmaus, East Stroudsburg South, Parkland, Central Catholic, Pocono Mountain West, Freedom, Bethlehem Catholic and Liberty.

A seeding meeting is set for Wednesday, past Press deadlines, but the top-seed in this year’s tournament figures to be Emmaus (18-4, 14-2), which owns the best record in the league. Pocono Mountain West (18-4, 13-3) will be the second seed, while Parkland (13-7, 12-4) likely is the third-seed.

After that, it’s a toss up for spots four-through-seven between East Stroudsburg South (17-5, 11-5), Freedom (15-7, 11-5), Central Catholic (14-8, 11-5) and Bethlehem Catholic (15-6, 11-5). The EPC will have to settle things with tiebreakers for seeding. Liberty (14-8, 10-6) looks like they’ll be the eighth seed with the most conference losses and will hit the road to Emmaus on Friday.

Semifinals will tip-off at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. respectively on Tuesday for the boys. A championship doubleheader with the girls (6 p.m.) and the boys (8 p.m.) games will be Thursday night.
