District News: Bus drivers sought for WCSD

Bus drivers are needed for Whitehall-Coplay School District.

Benefits include starting pay beginning at $111 a day; working four-and-a-half hours a day, split between morning and afternoon; guaranteed 180 hours; paid time off; holidays; and pension. Summer help opportunities and training are available, too.

The transition plan for Whitehall-Coplay Middle School students has kicked off. Parents/guardians of incoming Whitehall High School ninth-graders in the Class of 2027 can find transition information by watching a video from WHS Principal Dr. Peter Mayes on WHS’ Facebook page.

WCSD’s second marking period ended Jan. 20. Report cards will be sent through SwiftK12 10 a.m. Jan. 27.

Gockley Elementary School students and staff will have a celebration for its Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support program by wearing team sports jerseys and enjoying a game day Jan. 27.

Students are invited to bring in a board game to play with their classmates and wear their favorite jersey.

Whitehall-Coplay PTO PLUS will be selling valentines outside the cafeteria at Zephyr Elementary School during lunches, 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Jan. 30-Feb. 8, for 50 cents each. Students will have the opportunity to purchase valentines to be delivered to other students or staff members on Valentine’s Day.

PTO PLUS is excited to be hosting the sixth annual For the Love of Books bingo and book fair event 5-8 p.m. Feb. 3, with a snow date of Feb. 10, in the cafeteria at WCMS.

Zephyr Elementary School’s band will continue rehearsals in preparation for the Bands in Round concert, planned for 7 p.m. Feb. 28 in the WHS auditorium.

Rehearsals are set for 3:35-4:45 p.m., starting immediately after dismissal in the Zephyr gymnasium. Fifth grade will rehearse Tuesdays, and fourth grade rehearses Thursdays after school.

The rehearsal schedule will be Jan. 31 and Feb. 7 and 21 (with no rehearsal Feb. 14) for fifth grade and Feb. 2, 9 and 23 (no rehearsal Jan. 26 and Feb. 16) for fourth grade.

Touchstone Building Bridges will offer an after-school program at Zephyr. Touchstone uses theater and creative drama to facilitate cultural competency, self-awareness and communication with students.

By the end of the program, students will have created, with guidance from the Touchstone teaching artists, an original performance to share with classmates, teachers, counselors and family.

Registration will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Stand Out program is offered as a free program with a professional theater company. It will be improv writing, acting, games and more.

The first program will be 3:45-4:45 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 8-March 22. A sharing event will be held 5 p.m. March 22.
