Northampton Area High School 11th-grader Chloe Markle was the first-place winner at the district level of the Voice of Democracy essay contest.

She was among those honored Dec. 17, 2022, at a breakfast and awards reception hosted by Northampton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4714 and held at Samuel Owens Restaurant and Bar, 128 Chestnut St., Coplay.

NAHS 11th-grader Anna Hirsch placed first at the school level. Chloe placed second at that level, followed by 12th-grade student Natalie Mullen, who placed third.

Chloe’s district-level win advanced her essay to the state competition, which was held this past weekend.

The students’ contest results were listed incorrectly in an earlier edition. The Press regrets the error.
