Desmond, Rath win Escape the Rock

Bethlehem Catholic took home a top five finish over the weekend at the Escape the Rock tournament at Council Rock South.

Nate Desmond (114) and Kollin Rath (139) both took home gold medals for Becahi, who came away from the event with four medalists.

Malvern Prep took home the team title with 206.5 points, followed by Blair Academy (181), St. Joseph Regional (NJ) (147), Faith Christian (127) and Becahi (122).

Desmond delivered a 3-1 decision over Lucas Littleton Mascaro of Malvern Prep, while Rath also only needed one takedown to secure a 3-1 win over Pierson Manville of State College.

The other two Hawks to medal at the event were Cael McIntyre (133, fifth place) and Andrew Harmon (160, seventh).

Bethlehem Catholic’s (7-0) lone match this week is Wednesday’s conference bout against Pleasant Valley.

Liberty came away from the Virginia Duals with a 2-2 mark over the weekend in the American Division.

The Hurricanes lost Eastern View 42-37 and to Thomas Edison 41-32, before knocking off Franklin County 74-0 and then beating Grassfield 36-34.

It was a mixed bag of results for Brandon Hall and his team, one that he hopes the team can learn from moving forward.

“Friday was very frustrating for the coaching staff and wrestlers as we didn’t wrestle our best in all positions,” Hall said. “We gave up way too much bonus. We are a very young, inexperienced team but giving up six pins in a dual meet is not acceptable. The team meeting back at the hotel was critical to re-establishing what we are working toward individually and as a program.”

The Hurricanes (4-5) travel to Stroudsburg on Wednesday before heading to the Quakertown Duals this weekend.

“We expect to see a team that hand fights and maintains position on our feet,” said Hall. “A team that is consistently working to improve our position on bottom to avoid giving up max bonus. Our more experienced guys need to continue to strive for bonus every match they compete in.
