Scott Aquila receives proclamation

During the Jan. 5 Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting, Scott Aquila was recognized by the commissioners for his service to the community. A proclamation was awarded to Aquila for his years serving as a member of the public safety commission and the zoning hearing board.

From 2010-2013, Aquila was a member of the public safety commission and from 2013-2022, a member of the zoning hearing board with the last several years as the chairman.

Lehigh County Executive Phillips Armstrong attended this meeting and encouraged open communication between the county and the municipalities. He added a compliment to the newer member of the county commissioners, Ron Beitler, saying he is a wonderful addition to the board knowing he originally participated in Lower Macungie Township’s government.

Resolution 2023-02 was approved for security release for Beit Simcha on Grange Road.

Resolution 2023-03 was approved for security release for the Green Acres construction on Schantz Road.

Resolution 2023-01 was approved for Ciocca Audi for project closeout.

The sewer facilities planning module for 7991 Quarry Road final warehouse construction was approved.

There is an extension of the contract with the Sanctuary at Haafsville for animal control in the township. The reason for the additional 3-month extension is for the purpose of seeking other alternatives for these services. This was approved.

Various appointments to boards, committees and commissions were made.

The audit advisory committee acquired Susan Nenstiel, with a term expiring the first Monday of January 2026, Martine Minninger, with a term expiring the first Monday of January 2025 and James Rogers, with a term expiring the first Monday of January 2026.

Christopher Haller was approved for the building code board of appeals with a term expiring Jan. 1, 2026.

Jack Breiner and Ellen Iobst, with terms expiring Jan. 1, 2026, were approved for the environmental advisory council. Chris Sacchi was appointed to the chairman position by the commissioners.

The parks and recreation advisory committee had five members approved by the commissioners. Randy Cope, with a term expiring Dec. 31, 2025, Camelia Baker, with a term expiring Dec. 31, 2024, Michael Eddinger, with a term expiring Dec. 31, 2024 and Ozias Moore, with a term expiring Dec. 31, 2023.

The public safety advisory committee had three members approved by the commissioners: Travis Kocher, with a term expiring Dec. 31, 2025, John Parish, with a term expiring Dec. 31, 2025 and John Reinbold, with a term expiring Dec. 31, 2024.

The next board of commissioners meeting is 6 p.m. Jan. 19.
