Moore Township supervisors reorganize

The Moore Township Board of Supervisors held its annual reorganization meeting Jan. 3.

Supervisor Daniel Piorkowski was reappointed as chairman of the board. He has held the chairmanship for several years. Supervisor David Shaffer retained his vice chairmanship, a position he has held since becoming a supervisor. Supervisor Michael A. Tirrell Jr. is the third and newest supervisor on the three-member board.

Supervisors reportedly labored to contain taxes, which is manifested in the 2023 budget that contained no tax hike. At the December budget meetings, township Manager Nicholas C. Steiner said the federal American Rescue Plan Act funds assisted in taking pressure off the township budget.

Kevin Horvath was reappointed as the township engineer, David Backenstoe was reappointed as the township solicitor, and Jason Harhart was reappointed to the role of zoning officer.

The board made numerous other appointments and passed several resolutions. All supervisors’ appointments will be posted on the township website, mooretownship.org.

Resolution 2023-1 was passed, setting the township manager’s compensation. Resolution 2023-2 appointing an open records officer was approved, as was resolution 2023-3, which sets the township fee schedule for permits and any licensing for activities.

Resolution 2023-4, enacting the nonuniformed pension plan rate, was approved. Resolution 2023-5 addressing the police pension plan contribution exoneration was approved. Resolution 2023-6 addressed the chief administrative officer of the pension plans.

Resolution 2023-7 approved the Firmstone deed dedication, and 2023-8 addressed the Arthofer rights-of-way deeds.

All resolutions are available from the township office for citizen review either by visiting the township website or calling the township office.

The next Moore supervisors meeting is set for 6 p.m. Feb. 7 in the municipal building, 2491 Community Drive. It is an in-person meeting only.
