Q-town boys win Holiday Classic

In the annual Salisbury Holiday Classic, the Salisbury boys fell to both Quakertown and Oley Valley last week. The losses dropped the Falcons to 1-8 overall and they are 1-4 in the Colonial League as they head into the post-holiday portion of their schedule.

Junior Jake Zellin set his season-high in scoring against Quakertown when he contributed 13 points and then upped the mark to 15 the following night in the loss to Oley Valley.

In the 45-34 loss to Quakertown, Zellin was the only member of the Falcons in double figures in scoring, but fellow junior Thomas Lovelidge finished with nine points in the game.

The meeting with Oley Valley the following night was the second of the season for Salisbury. Oley downed the Falcons 61-30 in the season opener and was able to take third place in the tournament with a 52-37 win over Salisbury in the consolation final. In addition to Zellin’s 15 points, Andrew Grejda had 10 points for the Falcons in the loss.

Two issues played a part in the loss to the Lynx. The Falcons were outshot 6-3 from three-point range and they got to the free-throw line just four times compared to 16 trips for their opponent.

In the tournament final, Quakertown downed Saucon Valley 47-29, handing the Panthers (9-1, 6-0) their first loss of the season.

In their last three games, Salisbury has managed to get to the line just 10 times, hitting on six of the freebies. In their nine games this season, Salisbury has gone to the line just 71 times, hitting 61-percent of those shots.

In the next week, Salisbury has home games against Northern Lehigh (0-10, 0-5) and Notre Dame Green Pond (7-3, 5-1) before playing at Pen Argyl (4-6, 2-4) on Monday.
