Coplay Borough’s new training classroom is ready

The classroom in the Coplay municipal building has been refurbished and is ready for use, according to borough police Chief Ryan Emerich.

In fact, he told council, during its workshop meeting Jan. 3, the police department is hosting a training session there, with a full class of officers from the area attending.

Councilman Rick Kern, who leads the grants committee, indicated he and the borough grant writer, VGG Consulting LLC, will be meeting with the chairs of the borough committees to discuss plans for 2023. Kern said the committee leads can detail what their wishes may be in the grant area and conversations will follow on how to execute those ideas.

Coplay Public Library has filled its last available part-time position, according to Councilwoman Janet Eisenhauer. The search for a library director continues.

Councilman Mark Molitoris, head of the park and recreation committee, reported he has been communicating with the Suburban North Family YMCA, in Catasauqua, to see if it has any interest in running the borough swimming pool this summer. This idea is in the early stages and information is still being exchanged between the parties.

Joseph Bundra, borough liaison to the Ironton Rail Trail Oversight Commission, reviewed the many events held and improvements made to the IRT in 2022.

Public works Director Paul Boyle mentioned Christmas tree pickups will take place in the borough Jan. 6, 13 and 20.

The next regular borough meeting will be held 7 p.m. Jan. 10 in the borough municipal building, 98 S. Fourth St.
