Susan R. Robertson

Susan R. Robertson, 94, of Albany Township, died Dec. 1, 2022, in Cornerstone Living, Weisenberg Township, where she had been a patient since August.

She was the widow of Chester J. Robertson Jr. (Bob), who died Nov. 28, 2008.

Born in Detroit, Mich., she was a daughter of the late Clarence C. and Helen (McClure) Ryan.

She was a member of Kempton New Church, Kempton.

She earned a Master’s degree in social work from Smith College, Northampton, Mass.

Before her marriage, she worked as a psychiatric social worker, then focused on raising her family.

She was one of the first licensed bird handlers through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Association, and also volunteered extensively with that association.

She and her late husband, both volunteers, established the nest box program at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, where she also helped educating interns from around the world.

For her efforts, she received the Hawk Mountain Warden’s Award in 2013, the Pennsylvania Conservationist Award in 1997, and Walt Disney World Conservation Award in 2014.

She was also a member and volunteer with Kempton Fire Company; and Albany Township Historical Society.

She enjoyed playing Scrabble; and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her perfect time for a happy hour Scotch was 4 p.m.

Her survivors include sons Douglas A., husband of Zanna A. (Alden) Robertson, of Kempton; and James M., husband of Cheryl L. (Angstadt) Robertson, of Kempton; grandchildren: Lindsey R. (Robertson), wife of Rory R. Dietrich; Alexander R., husband of Alessandra O. (Karpowicz) Robertson; and Devin M., husband of Amanda L. (Gamache) Robertson; great-grandchildren Makenna L. Dietrich, Everly A. Dietrich and Luca John Robertson.

She was predeceased by a son, John C. Robertson; and brothers: Dr. Richard A. Ryan and Douglas C. Ryan.
