Catty girls win again

Catasauqua’s girls’ basketball team continued its solid start, while the boys’ team couldn’t get on track Tuesday night.

The girls raised their record to 2-1 overall with a 47-22 home win over Salisbury. Freshman Hailey Jenkins had a game-high 18 points, having 11 of them in the third quarter. Junior Delaney Troxell had seven. The Rough Riders were coming off a 25-23 loss to Executive Education in the final of the Tamaqua Tournament.

Head coach Mark Seremula was pleased with his team’s performance.

“It was a great win, and we played with a lot of intensity,” said Seremula. “All of the players on the varsity roster contributed. It’s fun to watch these young ladies because they play so hard and play for each other.”

In their opener, the boys’ team couldn’t work out the kinks in a 47-22 loss at Salisbury. Catty shot eight for 42 from the field, and 11 for 21 from the foul line.

“It was the same old story,” said Roughies’ head coach Eric Snyder. “Our defense was good and we rebounded fairly well.

“We struggled passing the ball, shooting the ball, catching the ball, and dribbling the ball. We have to get better on outside shooting especially, and that was our Achilles’ heel again.”

The girls’ team will be back in action at Northern Lehigh Thursday and at Bangor Monday, while the boys’ team hosts Northern Lehigh Thursday and travels to Panther Valley Saturday.
