Holy Trinity offers chili, wings

Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church, 604 Fourth St., Catasauqua, held its traditional pre-Turkey Game bonfire chili and wings dinner Nov. 23.

The annual bonfire is intended to fire up the residents in preparation for the Thanksgiving Turkey Game between the Catasauqua High School Rough Riders and the Northampton Area High School Konkrete Kids. This year was the 99th game between the two schools.

Holy Trinity Pastor Brian Riedy noted the chili and wings dinner is an annual tradition held before the bonfire, and it also marks the beginning of the church’s Warm Up Wednesdays free hot soup dinners that run 4:30-6 p.m. at the church social hall.

The church accepts donations during these events and meals instead of charging a fee. The thought is to turn no one away because of financial need.

The quest for fellowship, inclusiveness and the spread of goodwill is noted in the Lutheran dinner prayer.

“Lord, we thank you for the food before us, the friends beside us, the love between us and your presence among us,” the prayer states. “Come, Lord Jesus. Amen. Come, Lord Jesus, be our guest. May these gifts to us be blessed.”
