English language course for parents in NASD is approved

An English course for adults will be offered in Northampton Area School District. The board of education voted 9-0 at its Nov. 14 meeting to approve, at the recommendation of the administration, “Embracing English for Adults,” an adult English course: Title III.

The program will be held Tuesdays and Wednesdays, spanning Feb. 28-March 22, 2023.

According to the agenda item approved by the board, parents “will be able to attend virtually at no cost.”

Also, it was stated there is no cost to NASD for providing the instruction for the parents. NASD staff members will be paid with Title III funds at no cost to the district, it was reported.

The school board approval included English language instructors Stephanie Szoke, Robin Matis and Jennifer Gensits.

In other business at the Nov. 14 board meeting, school directors voted 9-0 to approve, at the recommendation of the administration, Janine Bonham, science teacher, at Northampton Area Middle School, effective no later than Jan. 17, 2023, at a prorated salary of $77,522, with benefits; Joseph Winter, long-term substitute special education teacher, at Northampton Area High School, effective retroactive to Nov. 9 through March 31, 2023, at a prorated salary of $60,303; Heather Royer, long-term substitute kindergarten teacher, at Franklin Elementary School, effective Dec. 20 for the remainder of the 2022-23 school year, at a prorated salary of $57,155; Lynette Meister, short-term substitute special education teacher, at Siegfried Elementary School, effective Dec. 5-April 12, 2023, at a per diem rate of $165; Taylor Schmoyer, long-term substitute reading teacher at NAMS, effective Jan. 19, 2023, for the second semester of the 2022-23 school year, at a prorated salary of $57,155; Alexander Skrapits, long-term substitute chemistry teacher, at NAHS, effective Jan. 19, 2023, for the second semester of the 2022-23 school year, at a prorated salary of $57,155; Elizabeth Lees, special education instructional assistant, at NAMS, effective Nov. 29, at $14.99 per hour; and Ian Luberti, long-term substitute business/computer/information technology teacher, at NAHS, effective Jan. 19, 2023, for the second semester of the 2022-23, at a prorated salary of $57,155.
