Coplay: Food bank seeks donations

Happy Thanksgiving!

Coplay Food Bank is seeking donations for the holiday season. Much-needed items are canned sweet potatoes, canned fruit, Jell-O mixes, cereal, peanut butter, jelly and canned meats like SpaghettiOs, ravioli, etc.

Drop off items at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 18 S. Third St.

The food bank, located in the lower level of the municipal building, 98 S. Fourth St., is open the second Tuesday of every month from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. If unable to attend the scheduled Tuesday morning time frame, call Jodi at 610-262-0928 to make other arrangements.

The parks and recreation board meets 7 p.m. Nov. 30 at the borough building. The board will be examining a request from council members to close the municipal pool for the 2023 season.

You are invited to attend and share your thoughts.

The recreation and welfare association invites all to the tree lighting and holiday concert, set for 6:30 p.m. Dec. 1 at borough hall. Santa will be there, with Lorri Woodward and Rob Ballonoff providing entertainment.

Light refreshments will be served, and kids receive a small gift.

The Michael Ann and Saquon Barkley Hope Foundation designer purse bingo is planned for Dec. 9 at American Club of Coplay, 300 Cherry St. Doors open 5 p.m., and bingo starts 6 p.m.

There will be food and beverages for sale. All proceeds benefit the foundation.

Coplay Sports’ Santa parade is planned for Dec. 11. More details are forthcoming.

The Altar and Rosary Society of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 4 S. Fifth St., is hosting its first milk and cookies with Santa event noon-2 p.m. Dec. 18 in the church hall.

Santa will be available for pictures, and the ladies of the Rosary Society will provide homemade cookies.

All are invited.

Coplay Saengerbund, 205 S. Fifth St., is planning its New Year’s Eve celebration called the Sylvester dance. More information is to come.

St. John’s Lutheran Church is assembling a yearlong celebration for 2023 as the church celebrates its 150th year anniversary.

American Club of Coplay has restarted its monthly hoagie sales. Hoagies (regular or tuna) and sandwiches (ham and cheese or tuna) are available.

Leaves will continue to be picked up through Dec. 30. Yard waste and grass can be dropped off at 1 Bridge St. between 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Coplay Athletic Club is seeking 2023 new and renewal memberships - $90 per year and $80 for renewals. The gym is located on the second floor of the municipal building.

Coplay American Legion Post 426 has a special mailbox in front of the Post, 134 S. Second St. Worn-out American flags can be deposited there for the Post to properly retire the flags.
