Nov. 16

The Emmaus Historical Society will present a program 7 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church Parish Hall, 501 Chestnut St., Emmaus. The program titled, “Moravians in Emmaus, the First 100 Years, 1742-1842” will be presented by Thomas McCullough, assistant archivist at the Moravian Archives in Bethlehem. This special program will cover the first 100 years in Emmaus including the early settlers, how the village became a closed Moravian community, the daily life, customs and stories of those who lived in Emmaus as well as important moments of those 100 years. All are welcome to attend this free event. Refreshments served immediately following the program.

Nov. 20

Local artist Molly Gilley will lead participants in a centerpiece making class 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the barn at Kalmback Memorial Park, 200 Cotton St., Macungie. Participants will use fresh pumpkins, flowers and greens to create the centerpiece. Seating is limited. For information, visit the park website at kalmbachpark.com.

Nov. 22

A Thanksgiving service for the community is scheduled 7 p.m. at Salem United Methodist Church, 6440 Powder Valley Road Zionsville. Jenny Fujita, pastor of Upper Milford Mennonite Church, will preach. All are welcome to the service.

Nov. 23

There will be a joint St. Peter’s/Huffs Church Thanksgiving eve service 7 p.m. at St. Peter’s Union Church, Macungie. All are welcome.

Nov. 26

The Emmaus Main Street Partners will host Small Business Saturday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Shoppers can pick up a tote bag with a map of participating businesses offering promotions while supplies last. The day also will include the Holly Jolly Shopping Spree contest in which shoppers may send a picture of their Emmaus business receipts to 610-739-1273 to be entered to win a variety of prizes from local businesses through Dec. 21. Shoppers also are welcome to take pictures with the event sign on the Triangle and post to social media with the hashtag #ShowtheLoveShopEmmaus.

Nov. 29

Hivel Und Dahl Preservation Society quarterly meeting 7 p.m. at the Upper Milford Township Building, 5671 Chestnut St., Zionsville. The program is “From St. Nicholas to Santa.” Learn how we went from St. Nicholas, a priest born in A.D. 270, to Santa. There will also be a presentation about the early Pennsylvania German tradition of the goose feather tree. If you have a favored Santa, bring it to share with the group. The program is free and all are welcome.

Dec. 2

Emmaus Public Library Friends’ Holiday Book Sale 6 to 8 p.m. at the library, 11 E. Main St., Emmaus. Items available in the sale include: recent fiction and nonfiction for the whole family, holiday books for all ages, holiday cookbooks and craft books, movie DVDs and music CDs, puzzles and beautiful two-sided art bookmarks. Refreshments will include hot cocoa, hot cider and cookies to go. Organizers request all purchases be made with either cash or check.

Dec. 10

Kalmbach Memorial Park, 200 Cotton St., Macungie, will continue its tradition of a holiday gingerbread contest and display 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Contestants will compete in a variety of categories including Remembering Royalty, a new category this year to honor Queen Elizabeth II.
