Walter L. Winch

Walter L. Winch, 70, of Middletown, died Oct. 24, 2022, in his home after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was the husband of Donna Winch for 40 years.

Born in Catasauqua, he was a son of the late Lavere and Caroline Winch.

He graduated from Catasauqua High School after being distinguished in the Basketball 1,000 Point Club, garnering him many honors in the Lehigh Valley area along with national recognition. He graduated from Mansfield University with a degree in psychology, where he was honored as a PSAC All-League player and the MU 70s All Decade Team. He got his master’s degree and certification in school psychology at Edinboro University.

He worked as a child psychologist in several mid-state school districts for 25 years before becoming the owner of the first Mail Boxes Etc. (now the UPS Store) in Harrisburg for 12 years.

After college, he became a basketball referee for PIAA, college and recreation leagues for 40 years. He volunteered for Special Olympics and the Keystone Games.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Ashley with Jason Thomas; a son, Tyler with Sarah; and two grandchildren, Camden and Sloane.
