Saving the Schubert-Graber Log Cabin

At the Oct. 6 Upper Milford Township Board of Supervisors meeting, the future of the Schubert-Graber Cabin took center stage.

Built over 300 years ago by the Schubert family, the Schubert-Graber Log Cabin is located along Powder Valley Road. It has served the Upper Milford community, as both a shop and a home. However, time has caught up with it and the cabin is in desperate need of repair.

Isabel Miller, who is the president of The Hivel Und Dahl Preservation Society, spoke to the board about the historic importance of the cabin. She also presented the supervisors with a detailed package about the cabin and the repairs needed to restore the cabin to its original structure.

The Hivel Und Dahl Preservation Society is hoping to obtain the support of the township to receive government funding to offset some of the costs.

Although more research is needed to see which government funds the restorations of the cabin would qualify for, Supervisor Joyce Moore made it clear she would be willing to work with Miller on this. This was a sentiment which seemed to be shared by her board colleagues.

In other business, the Emmaus Public Library hosted a Community Heroes Night Oct 6. There are also a number of activities at the library this month, which can be found on the library’s social media sites.

Township Manager Bud Carter will be presenting a detailed budget at the next meeting, set for Oct. 20. He did mention it will be balanced budget.
