Shirley A. Eckhart

Shirley A. Eckhart, 88, of Silver Creek Senior Living, St. Augustine, Fla., and formerly of Cherryville, died Oct. 10, 2022, in her home. She was the wife of the late Richard D. Eckhart.

Born in Northampton, she was a daughter of the late William G. and Irene E. (O’Brien) Gross.

She attended George Wolf Elementary School and Northampton junior and senior high schools where she was a member of the majorette squad.

She worked in the customer service department of Eastern Light Company and later for AmeriGas Corporation, Allentown, until she retired in 2003.

She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Indianland. She was on the consistory and was a president of Women United for Christ.

She coached girls’ softball at Lehigh Township Athletic Association and was the organization’s treasurer. She was a board member of the Lehigh Township Historical Society; a member and past treasurer of the Lehigh Township Lioness Club; and a member of Order of the Eastern Star 235 Rose Croix Chapter, North Catasauqua.

She is survived by a daughter, Beth A. Mahoney and husband Paul of Cornelius, N.C., with Paige and Scott; a son, Michael D. of Cornelius, N.C., with Alisha and Arianna; and two nieces, Pat Csencsits and Brenda Csencsits.

She was predeceased by a sister, Kathleen Fava; and a nephew, Larry Csencsits.
