STUDENT PROFILE Michael J. Hodgskin, Notre Dame HS

Grade: 12

Family: Mom (Zelenda) Dad (Michael) Sister (Elena) Sister (Calyssa)

Favorite subject: I’ve always really liked all of my English classes; I have a passion for writing and am one of the few who enjoys open ended answering

Activities: Key Club, S.A.D.D. (Students Against Destructive Decisions), Peer Listening, Mini-THON, one of the writers for the school newspaper, National Honor Society, Fit Club, Stage Crew

Next steps: I would like to go to Northampton Community College for the first two years to complete my core courses, and then I will decide where to go from there.

Career goals: I would like to become a writer/author, and publish novels.

Heroes: My dad is my hero. He was in the Marine Corps and then became a Pennsylvania State Trooper and continues to go out every night and put his life on the line to protect others.

Hobbies: Writing, stop-motion animating, lifting weights, hanging out with friends

Current job: I am currently working as a busser for the Marblehead Chowderhouse

Volunteer/community work: I am in Key Club, which is all about giving back to the community, I am on the tutor committee for National Honor Society, and I attend various events to help raise money for those in need.

Likes: Dogs, the color green, outdoors, baseball, nature, steak and spending time with my friends.

Dislikes: Procrastinators, homework, avocados and messes

Greatest accomplishment so far: Well, I would say that for now my greatest accomplishment is the novel I am currently writing. Although it’s not finished nor published, I’ve been working on it for almost 10 years now and have come a long way.

Advice for peers: I know this probably sounds like old news, but my advice is getting involved in as many things as possible. Especially for freshmen, it is a great opportunity to meet new people and make new friends. It is probably the best plan of action I took, and I recommend it to everyone. Get your hands dirty and involve yourself in things you wouldn’t normally do, and who knows- maybe you might like it.
