Trojan boys take sixth at Paul Short

The Parkland cross country teams competed in the Paul Short Invitational last Friday at Lehigh University.

The Trojan boys team took sixth place in a strong field of 44 teams in the Brown Division, which featured the top high school teams at the meet. Parkland’s girls team finished 14th out of 38 teams in the girls Brown Division.

Paul Abeln led the way for the Parkland boys team, finishing in 44th place overall in 16:04.7. Liam McGuigan (60th), Jake Barnes (61st), Ethan Willard (62nd) and Praveen Sureshkumar (99th) made up the Trojans’ top five in the boys race. Brady Hoffman (134th), Tyler Rothrock (165th), Samuel Tomko (218th), Jorge Rinker (299th), Brady Roy (308th) and Marcelo Castilla (416th) also ran for Parkland Friday at Lehigh in a field of 495 runners in the Brown Division.

Lana Hurwitz led the Trojan girls team with a 7th-place finish in a field of 399 at Lehigh, followed by teammate Elena Wenger (74th), Gracie Trexler (98th), Lucy Tobia (110th) and Talia Zurinskas (113th) to round out the top five. Marley Boyle (180th), Abbey Bender (201st), Homare Yamashita (219th), Ava Lundy (230th), Alexandra Ost (283rd), Eve Horvath (288th) and Emily Kokie (325th) also ran for Parkland at the Paul Short.

The Trojans were the highest-finishing East Penn Conference boys team at Lehigh, finishing higher than Nazareth (10th), Emmaus (25th), Easton (31st) and Liberty (39th).

Manheim Township won the boys race, followed by North Penn, Exeter, Haverford and Penncrest.

The Emmaus girls were the top EPC team at the Paul Short, taking second place. Easton was 10th, while Liberty (22nd) and Northampton (38th) also ran at the meet.

Owen J. Roberts won the Brown Division girls title, followed by Emmaus, Perkiomen Valley, Dallastown and Hershey.

The Trojan boys team headed into this week at 9-0 in East Penn Conference meets with just two more left on the schedule. The Trojan girls team was 8-1 heading into this week.
