Book Fest at Union Lutheran

Union Lutheran Church, 5500 Route 873, Schnecksville, will host a Book Fest 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 11 in the Family Life Center.

Visitors can choose from a variety of books and take them home for free.

Books for every age will be available.

Donations of books in good condition are being accepted.

St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1415 Rising Sun Road, Laurys Station, is having a chicken barbecue 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 10, for eat in, and until 7 p.m. for takeout.

Meal includes half a chicken, baked potato, corn on the cob, lettuce with bacon dressing, beverage, and dessert.

The event also offers a children’s option consisting of two drumsticks, macaroni and cheese, applesauce, cookie and beverage.

Starting Sept. 11, Union United Church of Christ, Neffs, will have Sunday worship services at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

The property committee reports C.J. Diirner and Sons, Ephrata, have been repairing and upgrading the steeple.

The project includes replacing damaged slates, repairing copper covers and valleys, and replacing damaged wood.

The weather vane was scheduled to be cleaned and repainted.

Steeple woodwork is being covered with high grade aluminum to eliminate painting in the future.

Inside the sanctuary, upgrades to the sound and video systems are being undertaken to improve transmission of services for people watching from their homes.


The Ladies Auxiliary of Northern Valley EMS, NOVA, will be baking shoofly pies for their next fundraiser.
