Teen dies following wood chipping accident

A 17-year-old Coplay male died after being injured in a commercial wood chipping accident around 1:35 p.m. Aug. 9 at 3785 Excelsior Road, North Whitehall Township,

According to Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio, Isiah Bedocs was partly pulled into the commercial wood chipper.

Bedocs was pronounced dead around 2:55 p.m. that day in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, Buglio said.

His cause of death was multiple traumatic injuries.

The manner of his death was ruled an accident, Buglio stated.

According to State Police Troop M, Bethlehem, troopers were dispatched to the location for a report of a male who had been critically injured while working with a wood chipper.

Upon arrival, Troopers and emergency medical service personnel provided medical assistance to the teen before he was MedEvac’d to the hospital.

The investigation, which is ongoing, is being conducted by Pennsylvania State Police, Bethlehem, Criminal Investigation Unit.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is assisting with the investigation.

Stew’s Towing removed the wood chipper from the scene.
