Kids enjoy summer reading program

Public Library of Catasauqua, 302 Bridge St., recently held its summer reading program with the theme “Oceans of Possibilities.”

Children learned about climate change, plastics use and other challenges facing our oceans and human health. The introduction of science concepts was linked to fun.

A bookmark contest was held for the kids. The winners were Brynn Nolter, Aurora Nolter and Paxton Landis. Brynn’s bookmark featured a pirate, Aurora’s had a sea turtle, and Paxton’s had an ocean seascape with a person air-gliding above the sea.

The library environment stimulated reading, creative craft activities and fun as children learned things in a multimodal fashion.

One of the library’s leaders, Amy Feidler, noted the campers had a great time having fun, making crafts and learning new things about the oceans.

A library is considered a quality-of-life aspect in any community. Most libraries survive with state and local government funding, coupled with volunteer fundraising activities.

The library is housed in a building that once served as a church. Catasauqua has a number of churches that have been converted over the years.

For how much fun they had, one can assume the participants will talk about the program when they return to school this fall when asked what they did over the summer.

Cousins Aurora and Brynn Nolter are named winners in Public Library of Catasauqua's summer reading program, held at the 302 Bridge St. site.
