Do you sometimes imagine yourself fit and strong, striding effortlessly down the road during an easy workout or a 5-K race?
First Strides is a 10-week program for women to help them comfortably progress to a healthy habit of walking, jogging or running at a pace that is right for them. Bring your daughters, mothers, neighbors, co-workers and friends ages 12-112.
The program will run 6:15-7:45 p.m. Tuesdays from July 26 to Sept. 27 or Wednesdays from July 27 to Sept. 28, rain or shine, at the Allentown Lehigh Parkway, by the Lehigh Valley Railroad clubhouse, 1600 Park Drive.
The small-group workouts are led by mentors, many of whom are also First Strides graduates, who volunteer their time to help you reach your goals.
The nonrefundable registration fee includes weekly presentations by local experts and a graduation shirt.
Weekly workshops include a group walk/run and discussion of various topics: proper walk/run shoes, training principles, injury prevention, motivation, nutrition and more.
Come dressed for activity. Participants are expected to have the permission of their doctor.
The final goal is to come to the Women’s 5-K Classic, scheduled for Oct. 1. Separate registration is required for the race.
Due to COVID-19, local, state and federal guidelines will be followed in order to keep sessions safe.
