Robert Henry Ford

Robert “Bob” Henry Ford, 63, of Salisbury Township, died in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Jan. 5, 2022. He was the husband of Geralyn (Surmick) Ford for 37 years. Born in Reading, Mass., he was a son of the late Edward L. and Shirley (Kinsey) Ford.

He was a 1976 graduate of Quakertown High School.

He joined the United States Army, serving with the military police. He then continued his studies at Bucks and Lehigh community colleges.

He started his civilian career at Lehigh Valley Hospital in security and was later employed at St. Luke’s Hospital Security Department.

He enjoyed cheering on the Broncos, Penn State, Phantoms and Phillies and enjoyed taking in many local games with his family and friends.

He loved judging the Great Allentown Fair apple pie and baking competitions. In his spare time he was an avid reader and fisherman. He loved spending time with his grandson who was a bright light in his life.

His family brought him strength and courage during his longtime battle with kidney disease.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Melissa and her husband, Michael Richard and a grandson Michael Jr., all of Allentown; a sister, Eleanor and her husband, Dennis Hallman, of Quakertown; a brother, Edward and his wife, Barbara, of Coopersburg; a nephew, Kevin Hallman and his wife, Melissa, of Quakertown; a sister-in-law, Donna Surmick, of Clermont, Fla.; a nephew, Rich Surmick, of Las Vegas, Nev.; a niece, Renee and her husband, Jim Conroy, of Clermont, Fla.; a great-niece, McKenzie Conroy, of Clermont, Fla. He was predeceased by a sister, Patricia Wakefield Ford and a brother-in-law, Richard Surmick.

Bob’s selfless gift of his corneas saved the sight of two individuals.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. July 9 in the Gilbert Funeral Home, 444 Pershing Blvd., Whitehall, located one block south of the Fullerton Avenue exit of Route 22, where his family will receive guests 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
