Coplay: Picnic is planned for July 24

St. John’s Lutheran Church is planning its annual summer picnic for July 24 at the Coplay Parkway pavilion.

The event begins with an outdoor church service 11 a.m., followed by lunch and picnic fun.

There is a cost.

The church, 18 S. Third St., is currently on its summer service schedule. Sunday services begin 9:15 a.m.

The summer schedule runs until early September.

Reminder: Coplay Saengerbund, 205 S. Fifth St., has announced its Friday night concerts - American Street Band, July 1; Ricky and the Rebels, July 8; Honey Buzzards, July 15; Chelsea Lyn Meyer, July 22; and Sons of Izzy, July 29.

Coplay’s Parkway Pool is open for the season.

The June and August pool hours are set for noon-7 p.m. The July hours are noon-8 p.m.

The popular Aqua Zumba classes returned June 20. Classes are 6-7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.

Mayor Stephen Burker is considering restarting the National Night Out Against Crime celebration Aug. 2.

NNO is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch.

St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 4 S. Fifth St., will hold its 68th annual picnic noon-9 p.m. Aug. 7.

The event will feature food, beverages, adult drinks, kids’ games and more. Entertainment will be by Emil Schanta Band and Flirtin’ with the Mob.

Bring your lawn chairs.

All are welcome.

St. John’s Lutheran Church is planning to sell food - including barbecue, cabbage and noodles, clam chowder, hot dogs, ice cream and drinks - at the Community Days event Aug. 26-28, and the church is seeking volunteers.

The Coplay Scholarship Fund Committee’s 2022 scholarship program is accepting applications for two $500 scholarships for high school seniors residing in Coplay who plan to attend a college, university, technical school or the police academy.

The American Club of Coplay has restarted its monthly hoagie sales.

Options include regular or tuna hoagies or ham and cheese or tuna sandwiches.

Coplay yard waste pickup is ongoing.

Grass will no longer be picked up. There is a drop-off location at 1 Bridge St. Drop-off hours will be 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m.

Coplay Food Bank is open 8:30-10 a.m. the second Tuesday of every month. The food bank is located in the lower level of the municipal building, 98 S. Fourth St.

Coplay Athletic Club is under new management and is seeking new and renewal members.

The gym is located on the second floor of the municipal building.

A gym membership costs $90 per year and $80 for renewals.
