Bethlehem man charged after shots fired at Catasauqua park

A 19-year-old male has been charged after a report of shots fired June 19 at Catasauqua Park and Playground.

Kian Deater, of Bethlehem, is charged with aggravated assault-deadly weapon, aggravated assault-extreme indifference, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, firearms not be carried without a license and possession of firearm prohibited, according to the Catasauqua Police Department.

Deater is currently in Lehigh County Jail, the department said.

According to the department, officers responded 6:43 p.m. to the park, 501 American St., for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, two males - Deater and a juvenile - attempted to flee.

“A brief foot pursuit ensued, and both males were taken into custody,” the release said.

A firearm was found, and no injuries were reported, according to police.

Lehigh County Juvenile Probation is handling the juvenile’s case.

The investigation is ongoing. No other information was available at press time.
