Parkland’s ‘Mamma Mia!’ in Freddy Awards spotlight

After a two-year hiatus from presenting an in-person event due to COVID-19, thespians from Parkland High School got a chance to shine in the spotlights of the State Theatre at the 2022 Freddy Awards on May 26.

Besides performing an energetic number from their production of “Mamma Mia!” as a company, Brenna Pelizzoni, in character as Sophie Sheridan, sang a solo during the awards show.

Parkland graduate and Freddy alumnus Reese Diaz returned as a presenter.

Frank Anonia, Parkland’s production’s music director and co-producer, currently serves as the Freddy Awards music director.

Parkland’s spring musical received 11 Freddy nominations, including one for Outstanding Overall Production of a Musical. .

Freddy nominees included Brenna Pelizzoni for her performance as Sophie Sheridan, Laurel Bendetti as Tanya, Jared Sussman as Bill Austin, and Katarina O’Mara as Rosie.
