District baseball tourney set to open

The District 11 baseball tournament gets underway this Wednesday with Liberty and Bethlehem Catholic both set to kick off action in the quarterfinal rounds of the 6A and 4A brackets.

Liberty comes into the 6A tournament as the second-seed and hosts seventh-seeded Pleasant Valley Wednesday at 4pm.

The other matchup in the bottom of the bracket is third-seeded Parkland taking on sixth-seeded Easton.

The top of the bracket features EPC champion Emmaus as the number-one seed, as they open with eighth-seeded Stroudsburg. Fourth-seeded Nazareth hosts fifth-seeded Northampton in the other matchup.

Semifinals are set for May 29 with the championship date coming on June 1.

Both the semifinals and finals will take place at DeSales.

In 4A, Bethlehem Catholic comes in off the bat with a tough EPC matchup against Central Catholic in a four-five matchup. That game will be Wednesday at 4pm at Freemansburg. The winner will take on either top-seeded Blue Mountain or eighth-seeded Jim Thorpe.

The Hawks were district champions last year and look to defend their crown.

In the bottom half of the bracket, second-seeded Saucon Valley takes on seventh-seeded North Schuylkill. The winner will player either third-seeded Pine Grove or sixth-seeded Northwestern.

The semifinals are set fort May 29 at Tamaqua with the finals to be held June 1 at DeSales.
